Our Story

I (Karah) was working as a trail guide at Jester Park Equestrian Center in Polk City the summer of 2014. At that time, Eric realized he wanted to get involved with horses, so he stopped by the barn with cupcakes to make a friendly first impression with the staff, in hopes they would teach him a thing or two about riding. We were introduced through another trail guide one day while I was getting ready to go on a trail ride. Through the summer Eric kept coming back with cupcakes, and we had some good conversations while I scooped horse poop in the arena, or whatever horse chore had to be done.

I went back to Virginia that fall. While I was away at school, Eric became more involved with Jester Park and ended up buying a horse (Dudley) who was a resident of the barn. I really missed being around horses while I was at school, so when I moved back to Iowa after graduating in 2016, I got reconnected with the barn and Eric. I ended up riding Dudley a few times that late summer to cure my horse fix, and Eric and I went to a concert with some friends in September. Later that fall I bought my first horse, and Eric was the one who let me borrow his trailer to pick up the horse in Ohio.

Eric and I didn't stay very connected after that until the following spring, as I mostly got busy with my first legal job. April 2017 Eric threw a birthday party for one of the staff members from Jester Park, which is again a time Eric and I reconnected. We ended up talking for a long time after the party was over. I didn't think much of it, but apparently a mutual friend had an inkling that something may have been in the works.

A few weeks later, I went on a trip with my parents. When I came back to work, a coworker mentioned that a guy had stopped by and dropped off muffins. After asking her for a detailed description, I finally realized it was Eric. I assumed he stopped by just to welcome me to my new job as a friendly gesture. I messaged him thanking him for the muffins and that it was too bad I missed him. He offered to come back the next week as it was my boss's birthday so he wanted to drop off cupcakes. I again thought nothing of it, even though my coworkers tried to convince me otherwise. He showed up the next week with cupcakes and before he left he walked into my office and closed the door. That's when I began to realize my coworkers were on to something! Long story short, he asked me out, and as they say the rest is history!
